CooperRiis Healing Community, Mind and Heart Working Together

Relationship-centered, holistic recovery at two locations: a healing farm community and an urban community for individuals who are at least 18 years of age.
A nurturing and caring environment for learning, living and working.

Our farm is on 80 rolling acres in the town of Mill Spring, North Carolina, about 45 miles southeast of Asheville, NC.

Our urban campus is located on 3 wooded acres near the heart of downtown Asheville, NC.
Community Programs in Asheville, Mill Spring and Tryon, NC.
A 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

Our healing community gets its approach from a therapeutic community model that has been in practice for 95 years. The central concept is a living environment where staff and residents live and work together as a functioning community.

The CooperRiis Healing Community honors the whole person.

CooperRiis utilizes a menu of services:

  • individual and group psychotherapy
  • educational coaching and work training program
  • access to expert psychopharmacology
  • addictions counseling
  • multimedia creative arts opportunities
  • nutritional & exercise coaching
  • smoking cessation guidance
  • massage therapy, reflexology and access to complementary modalities
CooperRiis accommodates up to 60 residents who are over the age of 18 and desire to recover their mental health. Residents are usually diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizo-affective disorder, bipolar disorder, asperger’s disorder, depression, and/or borderline personality disorder.

After an average stay of six to nine months, residents may transfer to the CooperRiis Community Programs, which provide long-term, supportive housing and growth and employment opportunities.

Cost: Maximum monthly rate is $12,500; after the first two months we offer up to 6 months of scholarship in our core programs and, if needed, in our community programs. Rates are based on families ability to pay. Community Programs have lower costs.
