CooperRiis Healing Community serves up to 80 residents, plus non-residential, community clients, beginning with its two campuses and extending into local community residences and supportive housing with staff support. We are committed to each resident’s achievement of their dreams for happier and more meaningful lives and for greater independence.
CooperRiis believes that mental health recovery is achievable. We are a therapeutic milieu where staff and residents interact together as a functioning community. Within the milieu, residents are offered improved nutrition, dietary supplementation, and exercise along with psychotherapy, medication monitoring, substance abuse counseling (if needed), professional planning support, life skills/employment training and massage therapy. CooperRiis encourages the resident to involve their family in their recovery process.
Characteristics of Residents: Residents are 18 years of age or above and are willing to participate in the program. Residents range from the young and unemployed to older professionals. Typical diagnoses include schizophrenia or schizo-affective, bipolar, major depression or anxiety disorders. Some residents experience borderline or avoidant personality disorder, and some may suffer secondarily from substance abuse and addiction.
Programs extending beyond the main campuses: After an average initial stay of 6-9 months, residents may also make use of the CooperRiis Community Programs, which provide access to longer-term, supportive housing and assistance to help residents attain and sustain educational and employment opportunities. About 80% successfully transition beyond the Community Programs to their definition of ‘normal living’.
Costs and Scholarships: The initial service fee of $14,500 per month is paid by the resident and his or her family. After the 2nd month of residency, we offer up to 18 months of scholarship (rate reduction) as the resident progresses through the steps of the program. Rates are based on the resident’s family’s ability to pay. The Community Programs also have lower costs at each level as the resident moves toward greater independence.
