Who we are

Academy House Community Residence (AHCR) is a residential care facility licensed for 21 beds and has been helping individuals recovering from mental illness since l970. We are an affordable alternative for people with chronic and persistent mental illness that are seeking long or short term residential care. We provide 24-hour supervision, ensuring a safe and stable environment.  We have always been a family run facility that focuses on maintaining a supportive, friendly, therapeutic, home-like atmosphere to persons recovering from emotional and physical trauma associated with mental illness.
The primary goals of our Program are to prevent regression, to improve the residents' quality of life, and whenever possible, to facilitate reintegration into the community.  While some residents are working to transition into independent living, others are simply looking for the long-term solution for a better life.  Many of our residents have lived here for decades and are employed in the community, taking school courses or volunteering their services at local agencies. We are a homestead, not a facility and we are committed to remaining small in size to maintain our homelike atmosphere.  We have the capacity to offer individual attention to each resident to help them cope with their mental illness and associated life challenges.
AHCR  is proud to be one of only a handful of New York State Office of Mental Health certified Community Residences that is permitted to provide both long and short-term residential care specifically for individuals diagnosed with mental illness.
AHCR Mission
At AHCR we believe every person can live a happy, productive and healthy life and that every client has the ability to learn, grow and manage their illness.  We treat all residents with dignity and compassion, using every opportunity to increase their self-confidence, as they learn new and different ways to cope with the real world.  We are committed to each resident’s achievement of their dreams for happier and more meaningful lives and for greater independence. Our family-like atmosphere encourages all individuals to become involved and participate in our community.
